How Gold Prices Actually Move (and Where to Check Today's Rate)
The price on a gold receipt isn't set by any one jeweller — it's derived from a global rate that moves every day. Here's how that number is calculated, and where to check it before you shop.

The price behind every gold purchase starts with one global number — the spot price of gold, quoted per troy ounce in US dollars — which is then converted to a local currency and a per-gram figure for each karat before it ever reaches a receipt. That's why the same design in 24K, 22K, 21K, and 18K carries four different per-gram prices even on the exact same day: each karat is a fixed proportion of pure gold, so its price is that same proportion of the spot rate.
What actually moves the spot price
Gold is priced in US dollars globally, so a stronger or weaker dollar moves the AED price even when nothing else has changed, since the two currencies are pegged. Beyond currency, the spot price mainly responds to interest-rate expectations (gold tends to rise when rates are expected to fall, since it earns no interest itself and competes directly with bonds and savings accounts) and to broader economic or geopolitical uncertainty, when investors often move toward gold as a stable store of value.
Why the price changes even within one day
Spot gold trades continuously on global markets, so the rate genuinely moves hour to hour, not just day to day — which is why a price checked in the morning can be measurably different by the afternoon. A jeweller's quoted price for the day is typically fixed to a specific update rather than tracking the market minute by minute.
Checking today's rate before you shop
The most useful number to check before buying is the current per-gram price at the karat you're actually considering, not the headline ounce price most news coverage quotes — the two aren't directly comparable without doing the conversion yourself.
Gold's price isn't set by any single store; it's set globally, every day, and every jeweller is simply pricing off the same number.
Lazurde Rose's Home page shows today's live gold rate per gram at 24K, 22K, 21K, and 18K, sourced directly from the global market — check it any time before you visit our Al Barsha Mall showroom, so you always know today's number before you go.
